SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swimming and diving team opens the 2022 portion of its schedule hosting three events at the Aztecs Aquaplex this week. On Tuesday morning, SDSU hosts Incarnate Word in a dual meet. Then on Friday, Jan. 7, Fresno State, Colorado State, New Mexico and Cal State East Bay come to The Mesa to compete and the week's action wraps up with a dual meet against Pepperdine on Saturday, Jan. 8.

The Incarnate Word dual gets underway at 9 a.m. PT and marks the fifth time these two programs have faced off. The previous four meetings have all come since the 2014-15 season and resulted in four Aztecs wins. Two of the competitions took place at the Aquaplex, a 142-133 win on Dec. 23, 2014, and a 166-73 victory on Dec. 31, 2018. The other two meetings were both in La Jolla, but the results were the same, a pair of SDSU victories. SDSU defeated Incarnate Word 184-107 on Jan. 3, 2015, and 220-70 on the same date a year later (Jan. 3, 2016).

San Diego State has won each of its last 34-dual meets dating back to Jan. 8, 2018, a streak of 1,456 days since it was last defeated.

Friday's competition, which features the Aztecs, Fresno State, Colorado State, New Mexico and Cal State East Bay is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. PT. Since the start of the 2011-12 season, San Diego State has a 12-1 record against Fresno State, Colorado State and New Mexico in dual meet competitions. In that time frame, the Aztecs have a 4-0 dual meet record against Fresno State, a 4-0 record against New Mexico and have gone 4-1 against Colorado State. The loss against Colorado State, on Jan. 18, 2018, is the last time an Aztec team has been defeated in dual meet competition. This will be the first meeting between San Diego State and Cal State East Bay.

On Saturday, at which the first race is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT, the Aztecs and Waves renew their rivalry and will face off for the second time this season. The two met in Malibu on Oct. 7, 2021, with San Diego State earning an 81-65 victory. The win was the program's 29th straight dual meet win. Since the 2016-17 season, the Aztecs have defeated the Waves 11 straight times, including five straight at the Aquaplex.
