SAN DIEGO – The Aztec men's soccer team defeated Point Loma 4-0 in a friendly match Friday evening on the SDSU Sports Deck. SDSU scored all four of their goals in the second half with Alex Hjælmof and Blake Bowen each scoring twice.

SDSU outshot the Sea Lions 20-2, with Point Loma's two shot attempts coming in the final minute of play.

"It was a great first match and great to see all our pieces out there," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. "It took some time for us to get going, but once we figured it out, we scored some really nice goals. All around, it was a great night for us."

The Aztecs dominated possession and the pace the entire night but didn't find the back of the net until the 57th minute despite recording the match's first 20 shots.

The freshmen Hjælmof (Rungsted, Denmark) scored both his goals within a minute of each other. His first came off an assist from Dono Roux, another Aztec making his collegiate debut, then he converted a penalty kick.

Blake Bowen's first goal was a beautiful left-footed bender that snuck inside the near post in the 67th minute. He scored again 10 minutes later on an assist from Iñigo Villaldea after SDSU got the Sea Lion keeper out of position.

Jacob Castro and Tetsuya Kadono each played a shutout half in goal.

THE NOTE
Nine Aztecs made their collegiate debut.
