SAN DIEGO – The Aztecs (6-6, 0-1) head to Fresno State (4-8, 0-1) for their first conference road game Friday at 2 p.m.
Aztec Tidbits
• SDSU fell to Wyoming 62-54 at home Tuesday afternoon in their conference opener.
• The Aztecs fell behind by double-digits after the Cowgirls went on a 19-2 run in the second quarter but rallied to pull within eight points in the fourth quarter. SDSU held Wyoming to nine points in the fourth quarter.
• SDSU posted season lows for turnovers (6) and fouls (10) and a season-high five blocks.
• The Aztecs went 6-5 in non-conference play, their first time having a winning record in OOC play since the 2017-18 season.
• Sophia Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) is one of nine active four-year players in the nation with at least 1,200 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 steals in their career. Out of that group, she has played the fewest games (88).
• On Tuesday, she passed former Aztec All-American Tina Hutchinson (1984-85), who still holds the NCAA record for most points in a single-season by a freshman, on the SDSU all-time scoring list.
• Ramos has 1,263 career points, good for 14th most in program history. With 13 or more points Friday, she will pass Marsha Overton (1980-83) and Jamey Cox (1,275) and move into 12th place.
• Ramos has scored 20 or more points 17 times and has been in double-digits 72 times (in 88 games).
• In her Aztec career, Mercedes Staples (Centerville, Utah) is making 39.5 percent (49-124) of her threes, the second best in school history (minimum 100 attempts).
• SDSU has three active players in the top seven all-time in career three-point percentage. Staples leads the way at 39.5 percent, Isabela Hernandez is fifth (37.0%, 50-135) and Sophia Ramos is seventh (35.7%, 121-339). Ramos is shooting 43.1 percent from deep this season, the best in the conference among qualified players.
• Asia Avinger, the preseason Mountain West Freshman of the Year, has scored in double-digits in five of SDSU's last six games. In that span, she is averaging 11.5 points and is 28-for-33 from the free throw line (84.8%).
• The Aztecs are 5-1 when scoring at least 60 points and 1-6 when they don't.
• SDSU has held their opponent under 40 percent shooting seven times, going 5-2 in those games.
• The Aztecs officially joined the Jordan Brand family this season, becoming just the ninth women's basketball program in the Jordan lineup.
Opponent Notebook (Fresno State)
• The Bulldogs are 4-8 on the year.
• They fell to UNLV at home in their conference opener 73-63.
• They are 2-4 on the road.
• Haley Cavinder, the preseason Mountain West Player of the Year, averages 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, both are tops in the conference. She also leads the Mountain West in double-doubles (5), free throw percentage (1.000, 35-35) and minutes per game (37.12)
• Her twin sister Hanna Cavinder averages 13.6 points and shoots 45 percent from three.
• As a team, they shoot 36.1 percent from three (2nd in the MW) and 76 percent from the line.
• They are sixth in the nation in turnovers per game (11.4).
• Last year they went 17-11 and 12-6 in conference and lost in the MW Championship game to Wyoming.
• They made it to the second round of the WNIT before falling to Rice 87-73.
• Head coach Jamie White (8th season) has guided the 'Dogs to three 20-win seasons, five postseason appearances and four appearances in the Mountain West tournament championship game. She has the highest win percentage in Mountain West games among active coaches.

• The Aztecs and Bulldogs split their two meetings last year, which took place on back-to-back days in San Diego. SDSU won the first one 79-77 and then Fresno State won the second one 82-61. In SDSU's win, both Sophia Ramos and Mercedes Staples scored 20 or more points, which is the last two the Aztecs have had two players reach 20 points in the same game.
• In last year's two meetings, Fresno State's Haley Cavinder averaged 25 points.
• From 1993 to 1997, SDSU won 13 straight against the Bulldogs, but since then they haven't won two in a row.
