SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (6-4) hosts No. 24 Ohio State (8-2) Tuesday at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with Chris Ello on the call.
 
Aztec Tidbits
• This will be SDSU's final non-conference game, and they have already clinched a winning OOC record, their first time accomplishing that since the 2017-18 season.
• This is the first ever meeting between the Aztecs and Buckeyes and the first time a ranked team has played at Viejas Arena since Nov. 23, 2013 (No. 19/14 South Carolina). The Aztecs haven't faced a ranked school since March 8, 2016 (No. 22/23 Colorado State).
• SDSU is coming off a 65-57 win over UC San Diego (Dec. 17). Sophia Ramos had 20 points and eight rebounds and Asia Avinger added 15 rebounds a career-high nine rebounds.
• The Aztecs tied their season-low with nine turnovers and committed just 13 fouls, also a season-low.
• SDSU set season-highs in free throws made (20) and attempted (26) while the Tritons were just 4-for-7 from the line.
• The Aztecs tied a season-high with 47 rebounds and their +16 margin was the best on the year.
• In her Aztec career, Mercedes Staples (Centerville, Utah) is making 39.8 percent (47-118) of her threes, the best in school history (minimum 100 attempts).
• SDSU has three active players in the top seven all-time in career three-point percentage. Staples leads the way at 39.8.9 percent, Isabela Hernandez is third (38.3%, 49-128) and Sophia Ramos is seventh (36.0%, 118-328).
• Sophia Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) is one of five active players in the nation with at least 1,200 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 steals in her career while playing in less than 100 games.
• Last Friday was the 17th time Ramos has scored 20 or more points and the 70th time (in 86 games) she has scored in double-digits. She jumped from 18th to 15th all-time in scoring and with 15 points vs. OSU, she will pass former Aztec All-American Tina Hutchinson.
• SDSU is shooting 38.2 percent from three. That leads the conference and is the 13th highest percentage in the nation.
• The Aztecs officially joined the Jordan Brand family this season, becoming just the ninth women's basketball program in the Jordan lineup.
 
Opponent Notebook (No. 24 Ohio State)
• The Buckeyes are 8-2 on the year.
• Their losses came to Syracuse and No. 10/8 Indiana. In their loss to Syracuse, former Aztec Naje Murray scored 21 points.
• They are No. 17 in the NET and No. 24 in the AP poll.
• They were scheduled to play at UCLA Sunday, but their game was canceled due to COVID-19 issues with the Bruins program.
• The Buckeyes lead the nation in field goal percentage (.496) and are sixth in three-point percentage (.405).
• They are fourth in points per game (86.5) and fifth in scoring margin (26.1).
• Jacy Sheldon averages a team-high 18.6 points per game and has a field goal percentage of 57.7
• Taylor Mikesell averages 17.2 points per game and is top ten in the nation in made threes per game (4.0) and three-point percentage (.533).
• Head coach Kevin McGuff (9th season) has over 400 career wins and a winning percentage of .700.
 
Series Notes
• This is the first ever meeting between San Diego State and Ohio State.
• The Aztecs are 5-8 all-time against teams currently in the Big Ten.
• SDSU's last game against a Big Ten team was Dec. 9, 2016, a 92-57 home loss to Michigan.
• The year prior, the Aztecs beat Wisconsin at home 63-57 (Nov. 29, 2015).
