SAN DIEGO – Jenny Bramer, San Diego State's Executive Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator, has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee.
"I'm honored to be appointed to this prestigious NCAA committee," Bramer said. "This is a critical time in college athletics, and a spotlight shines especially bright on the women's and men's basketball championships. Like many women who work in sports, and as a former student-athlete, I've been advocating for gender equity throughout my 30 years in college athletics. I am proud to be part of efforts that are creating a positive impact in the lives of our student-athletes and in athletics and I'm excited to have a voice at the table.
Effective immediately, Bramer will be one of 12 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee members and be responsible for all things related to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, including selection, seeding and bracketing of the yearly 68-team championship field. That includes selection of the 36 at-large teams which join the 32 automatic qualifiers in the tournament field.
Bramer was the Mountain West's recommendation to replace Janice Ruggiero of New Mexico, who recently stepped down. She will serve on the committee for the next five years (2021-26).
Bramer has been a member of the SDSU Athletics Department since 2003, steadily adding new responsibilities to her portfolio. She was the interim director of athletics in 2016, until the hiring of current Director of Intercollegiate Athletics John David Wicker.
Bramer has previously served on the NCAA Women's Water Polo committee and served on the Postgraduate Scholarship committee. While the chair of the Water Polo Committee the championship had its first all-female officiating crew. She has also been appointed to various Mountain West Conference and Women Leaders in College Sports committees and been on the advisory board for San Diego's branch of Women in Sports and Events (WISE).
A champion for providing opportunities for individuals to succeed, Bramer recently led a task force to create the SDSU Athletics' Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan and continues to guide the LEADS program. She will be integral in the 50th Anniversary of Title IX Celebration forthcoming in 2022.
An All-American high jumper at Oklahoma, she also played basketball under Hall of Fame coach Sherri Coale in her final season of eligibility. Bramer was an Academic All-American, received the Big 12 postgraduate scholarship and was named Oklahoma's NCAA Woman of the Year in 1997.
Following college, she served as the color commentator for the Oklahoma women's basketball radio and tv broadcasts. Bramer continues to have a role in basketball, in addition to her other supervisory responsibilities, she serves as the sport liaison for women's and men's basketball.
In January of 2021 the Division I Council adopted the proposal to expand the composition of the Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Committees from 10 to 12 members in 2021-22. Both committees consist of one member selected from each of the five autonomy conferences and three members selected from the seven highest-ranked nonautonomy conferences based on basketball success. The remaining four members are selected from the 20 other conferences.
