Women’s Tennis Singles Streak Continues

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team ran its singles win streak to 20 matches, posting a perfect 8-0 record on the first day of the San Diego State Fall Classic II held at the Aztec Tennis Center.
 
"We had an outstanding first day," Aztec head coach Peter Mattera said. "Most importantly, we took a significant step forward as a team, raising our level significantly. This event is a great steppingstone as we prepare for the Spring dual match season. We will try to be even better tomorrow."
 
The Aztecs 8-0 singles mark on Friday coupled with the 12-0 record the team compiled last week at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic gives the Aztecs a 20 match win streak. In the eight singles matches the Aztecs won on Friday, all occurred in straight sets, three came over Pac-12 opponents and the eight singles players dropped a total of 34 games in 16 sets.
 
SDSU seniors Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Tamara Arnold, each posted victories in the top-flight Gold Bracket. Thamchaiwat defeated Sydney Fitch of Air Force, 6-3, 6-1, while Arnold disposed of Lindsay Hung of Utah, 6-1, 6-4. The two Aztec seniors paired up in top-flight doubles to record a 6-1 win over UC Riverside's Sofia Lazzaroni and Serina Saltzen.
 
In the Black Bracket, senior Nnena Nadozie and Regina Pitts posted singles victories for the Aztecs. In the Red Bracket, Alicia Melosch and Cecile Mornin were both victorious, while Julia Jordan and Agustina Rimoldi Godoy claimed wins in the White Bracket.
 
In doubles play, the Aztecs posted a 2-2 record on Friday.
 
Day two of the three-day event is scheduled for tomorrow at the Aztec Tennis Center with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT. Admission is free.
