IRVING, Texas -- The San Diego State football team is 24th in the initial College Football Playoff Selection Committee Rankings, which was released Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time the Aztecs have ever made the CFP rankings.
 
SDSU is just ahead of No. 25 Pittsburgh and one spot behind No. 23 Fresno State. No. 20 Minnesota, No. 21 Wisconsin and No. 22 Iowa are also just above San Diego State. Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State and Oregon are the top-4 teams in the initial rankings.
 
The Aztecs are 7-1, matching their best eight-game start of the last 46 seasons. SDSU has a pair of wins over Pac-12 programs in Utah and Arizona with its only loss coming last Saturday to current No. 23 Fresno State, 30-20.
 
SDSU plays at Hawai'i at 5 p.m. HT (8 p.m. PT) Saturday.
