SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's golf team will wrap up their 2021 fall season at the Illini Invitational at Medinah beginning Monday morning.
The 54-hole tournament will be played at the famed Medinah's Course No. 2 (par-72, 6,159 yards) with the Aztecs playing 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday. Monday's play begins with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. PT (8:30 a.m. CT) and SDSU gets started Tuesday at 7 a.m. PT (9 a.m. CT) also with a shotgun start.
The 15-team field features six schools in the top 30 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and eight in the top 50. Schools slated to compete include Colorado, No. 20 Georgia, No. 49 Kent State, No. 27 Illinois, No. 37 Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Notre Dame, No. 31 Oklahoma, No. 30 Purdue, San Diego State, No. 22 San Jose State, No. 16 Texas Tech and Wisconsin.
Monday's forecast calls for mixed clouds and sun with scattered thunderstorms and a high of 78 degrees. SDSU's last tournament had the second round suspended and third round canceled due to inclement weather. Temperatures will be cooler Tuesday (high of 71) and there will be a slight chance of rain.
The Aztecs will roll out their same lineup as their last tournament, although with a different order: Anika Sato, Anna Lina Otten, Sara Kjellker, Bernice Olivarez Ilas and Sammy Lee.
Sato was SDSU's bright spot last time out, shooting a 71 (-1) in both rounds at the Golfweek Conference Challenge to tie for sixth overall. Her performance earned her the No. 1 spot in the Aztecs' lineup for the Illini Invitational.
Otten, Kjellker and Olivarez Ilas all finished 10-over par in the last tournament, tying for 75th. Kjellker (T-6th) and Olivarez Ilas (11th) each earned top-15 finishes in SDSU's season opening tournament, the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
Sammy Lee made her season debut at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, shooting a 77 and 79 to finish 12-over par and tie for 86th place.
This will be the final tournament of the Fall season for the Aztecs. Following the Illini Invitational SDSU won't return to action until the Lamkin Invitational Feb. 14-15, which the Aztecs will host at their home course, The Farms Golf Club.
