Aztec Basketball COVID-19 Policy

The health and safety of our student-athletes, fans, coaches and staff remains our primary focus as we bring fans back to San Diego State home games for the 2021-22 season. Please find Viejas Arena policies below , which apply to all home Aztec Men's and Women's Basketball games.

Facial Coverings
All guests two and over will be required to wear a facial covering that covers both the nose and mouth at all times, unless actively eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status. SDSU’s facial covering policy is in accordance with Cal/OSHA and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Health Verification

In accordance with state and county guidelines, for the 2021-22 season, all guests two and over will be required to present either proof of a completed COVID-19 vaccine series or a negative COVID-19 test.
Beginning on January 18, all individuals eligible for the COVID-19 booster will be required to show proof of booster in order to qualify as having completed the COVID-19 vaccine series.  If you received two shots of the Pfizer or Moderna series more than five months prior to Jan. 18, or if you received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two months prior to Jan. 18, you are eligible for a booster.
As of December 15, SDSU requires that COVID-19 tests be taken within one day prior to the event in order to comply with state and county guidelines (see testing details below). Only written reports from COVID-19 testing conducted by laboratories will be accepted as proof; photos of home tests are not acceptable.
Guests 18 and over will also need to provide a matching photo ID with their proof of vaccination or negative test results.

SDSU Students, Faculty, Staff
San Diego State University students, faculty and staff, in accordance with the campus COVID-19 policy, will be able to present their HealtheConnect verification to gain entry to Aztec Basketball games. Please note: Unvaccinated faculty, staff and students must have negative test results on file with a test collected within one day prior to the game in accordance with CDPH guidelines. SDSU students are encouraged to enter Viejas Arena for Aztec Basketball games via Gate 4, as this will primarily serve as an SDSU Student entrance.

General Public
While both paper and digital vaccination cards and negative test results will be accepted, the general public is encouraged to utilize the Bindle app, which has been introduced for ease in the verification process and to allow for faster entry into Viejas Arena for Aztec Basketball games.

When using Bindle, guests have two options:

  • Use a COVID-19 Vaccine Record: Guests can add their COVID-19 vaccination record via Smart Health QR or a photo upload. You will only need to import your information one time to create a single entry pass for the season. The entry pass will provide faster event entry when using the Smart Health Card.
    • Effective February 1, you must now create a new entry pass. Before creating the new entry pass, be sure to upload your proof of booster information to Bindle.
    • For people using the Smart Health Card, you can re-upload your SHC QR code and that will contain your booster. Once you have uploaded your SHC QR code, click HERE on your mobile device to create a new entry pass.
    • For people using a photo of your vaccination card, you need to add a "new vaccine" and label it 3rd dose with the date of the booster. Once you have uploaded your new photo, click HERE on your mobile device to create a new entry pass.
    • Old entry passes will not be accepted for entry and should be deleted. Fans can delete previous passes by opening the Bindle app, clicking on "My Passes" and swiping left on the old pass.
  • Use a COVID-19 Test Record: Guests can import their COVID-19 test results for a COVID-19 test collected within one day prior to the game. Only written reports from COVID-19 testing conducted by laboratories will be accepted as proof; photos of home tests are not acceptable. If you choose to verify through testing, you will need to upload new, negative COVID-19 tests prior to each event; you will not be able to secure a single entry pass for the season.

It takes less than 5 minutes to set up Bindle on either your iPhone or Android. To access and set up your Bindle account please follow the instructions below.

  1. Download the Bindle app on your smartphone (click HERE for video tutorial). Apple users click here.  Android users click here.
  2. Create your Bindle account if you don’t already have one by following the on-screen prompts (click HERE for video tutorial).
    • Because of our commitment to your privacy we do not have access to your information after you sign up.
  3. Load your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and/or recent test result.
  4. Before the Aztec Basketball game, use Bindle to Create an Entry Pass for your event (click HERE for video tutorial).
    • To find the correct event, click on the "My Passes" icon, search for SDSU, and choose between the two options (SDSU - Smart Health Card or SDSU - Photo Uploaded), based on how you provided your health information.
    • Once you find the event, click “Create Entry Pass” and Bindle will check to see if your digital certificates meet their policy criteria and provide you with the result. If you pass, you’ll then see an entry pass that includes the SDSU logo, your selfie, a green check mark and a QR code. This is what you'll show when you arrive at the event.
    • Attendees who import their COVID-19 vaccination record via Smart Health QR or photo upload will only need to import their information one time and create one pass for the season. Attendees who use COVID-19 testing, however, will need to upload new testing records for each game.
  5. On game day, open the Bindle app, go to My Passes, and select your SDSU Viejas pass.
    • When you arrive at Viejas Arena, the staff will scan or view your Entry Pass to verify whether you meet the entry criteria.
    • With the Bindle app, guests will not need to show photo ID as  this will already be set up in your Entry Pass.

NOTE: To ensure user security, only one person’s information may be included within each Bindle app; each individual must download the app to upload their own COVID-19 records. Guests 13 and over are encouraged to download Bindle if they have their own device. An additional verification option is indicated below for those unable to download Bindle:

Additional Verification Option for non-Bindle users
We will also accept paper credentials, such as a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccine card or a printed negative COVID-19 laboratory test result. To provide printed proof of vaccination or a test you must present the printed copy or a photo of the information on your phone or other electronic device on game day. Guests 18 and over will also need to provide a matching photo ID with their proof of vaccination or negative test results.
