MALIBU, Calif. – The San Diego State doubles team of Victor Castro and Joe Tyler emerged victorious on Saturday in the main draw of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on the campus of Pepperdine University.
Castro and Tyler knocked off their second straight seeded opponent with an 8-6 triumph over No. 7 Carlos Hassey and Colton Smith of Arizona in the round of 16. With the victory, the Aztec duo will square off against USC's third-seeded pairing of Stefan Dostanic and Samuel Rubell in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
Conversely, Johannes Seeman was not as fortunate in his round of 32 singles encounter with the Trojans' aforementioned Rubell, as the Scarlet and Black's 11th-seeded competitor was eliminated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The ITA Southwest Regional Championships continue on Sunday with doubles quarterfinals and semifinals scheduled for 9 and 9:45 a.m., respectively, while the singles quarterfinals and consolation rounds are slated to begin at approximately 11 a.m.
