NEW YORK -- The No. 22/21 San Diego State football's offensive line has been named to the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll for its performance through six games this season, The Foundation for Teamwork announced Tuesday.
The Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll includes units that display a high level of toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique, and "finishing". The Voting Subcommittee uses game film and coach submitted cut-ups on The DragonFly Division I Network as the primary OL Unit evaluation tool. Advanced OL data and statistics help support the film evaluation process by highlighting key situations and moments over the course of the season.
The Aztecs are one of 19 teams on the midseason honor roll, joining No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Michigan, No. 10 Oregon, No. 14 Coastal Carolina, No. 15 Kentucky, No. 20 Baylor, Air Force, Appalachian State, Arkansas, Brigham Young, Florida, Louisiana, Oregon State, Tennessee and UCLA.
The SDSU offensive line, which has started the same five all season in left tackle Zachary Thomas, left guard Chris Martinez, center Alama Uluave, right guard William Dunkle and right tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, started out the season with five straight 200-yard rushing games and currently rank 19th in the nation with 215.3 rushing yards per game. San Diego State has allowed just nine sacks on the season in six games, ranking in a tie for 28th in sacks allowed per game (1.50). Additionally, the Aztecs rank 25th in the country in time of possession (31:44).
These units have gained the attention of the Joe Moore Award voting committee as it moves closer to announcing the selection of semifinalists on Nov. 16 and finalists on Dec. 7. Selection of the 2021 Joe Moore Award winner will be made public after a surprise visit to the winning university's campus in late December.
SDSU, which is off to a 6-0 start for just the second time in the last 46 seasons (also 2017), plays at Air Force on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT (4 p.m. PT).
