SAN DIEGO -- It was another big week for former Aztecs in professional sports.

In the NFL, safety Damontae Kazee (2013-16) started and played 47 snaps on defense in Dallas' win over New England on Sunday. Kazee made a trio of solo tackles for the second consecutive week. After a bye in Week Seven, the Cowboys will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (2013-16) and San Francisco were on bye, but he did attend San Diego State's 19-13 win at San Jose State on Friday night. They will play Indianapolis on Sunday night. Long snapper Aaron Brewer (2008-11) appeared for nine snaps on special teams in Arizona's win to remain undefeated. Next week, the Cardinals play Houston. Cornerback Darren Hall (2018-20) and Atlanta were on bye, but they will return to take on Miami. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said that running back Rashaad Penny (2014-17) will return from injured reserve for Monday night's game against New Orleans. According to Carroll, Penny will be "full speed, ready to roll". He has been out since Week One with a calf injury. Offensive lineman Keith Ismael (2017-19), fullback Nick Bawden (2014-17), and tight end Kahale Warring (2016-18) are on the practice squads for Washington, the New York Jets, and Buffalo, respectively. On the other side of the ball, rookie safety Dwayne Johnson (2017-20), linebacker Calvin Munson (2013-16), defensive lineman Alex Barrett (2013-16) are the defensive players on practice squads, with Atlanta, Miami, and San Francisco.

In the NBA, guard Malachi Flynn (2020) is on Toronto's roster, while forwards Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) and Jalen McDaniels (2018-19) are on the Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte, respectively. Leonard is recovering from a partially torn ACL suffered during the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) tied for 18th in the CJ Cup @ Summit, at 18-under-par. Schauffele is ranked fifth in the world. Next weekend, he will compete in the ZOZO Championship in Chiba, Japan.
