Aztecs Wrap Up Round One at Golfweek Conference Challenge

WOLCOTT, Colo. – The Aztec women's golf team wrapped up their first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge Monday at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.

The Aztecs were led by freshman Anika Sato's 1-under par 71, which puts her in a tie for 24th place through 18 holes. Sato collected two birdies on the front nine while playing bogey-free. She added two more birdies on the back nine along with one bogey and one double-bogey. This was Sato's best round in her young collegiate career.
 
Senior Sara Kjellker finished 3-over par 75. After five straight pars to start the day, she bogeyed three of the last four holes on the front nine. She was an even par on the back nine, with one birdie and one bogey.
 
Bernice Olivarez Ilas finished with a 78 (+6) after having a pair of double bogeys on the front nine and two bogeys on the back nine.
 
Sammy Lee, who was making her 2021 debut, finished +6 on the front nine before rebounding with three birdies on the back nine to post a 5-over 77.
 
Also competing on the day was Anna Lina Otten who shot a 79.
 
Through 18 holes, East Tennessee State and Northern Arizona are tied for the lead after shooting a 279 (-9). Denver's Anna Catherine Krekling and BYU's Kerstin Fotu are the individual leaders after shooting a 66 (-6).
 
The Aztecs continue the Golfweek Conference Challenge with the second round Tuesday morning.
