WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Four players from the San Diego State men's tennis team completed their second wave of action at the North Ranch Invitational Saturday on the courts of North Ranch Country Club.
Victor Castro remained undefeated on the weekend, combining with Joe Tyler for an 8-1 triumph in doubles over the mixed combo of UNLV's Anton Ornberg and Jonathan Zhang of UC Santa Barbara.
The Aztec junior also emerged victorious in singles after outlasting Loyola Marymount's John Bryan Otico in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3
However, the rest of the SDSU delegation was not as fortunate, as the duo of Alexander Mändma and Johannes Seeman suffered an 8-1 defeat to the tandem of UNLV's Zac Brodney and Milos Dabic.
In singles competition, Seeman also fell short in straight sets to LMU's Isaac Becroft, 6-2, 6-4, while Tyler experienced a similar fate against another Lion player, as Dane Esses pulled away in the second set after a tiebreaker to win, 7-6(5), 6-1. Mändma did not compete in singles on Saturday after his LMU adversary was unable to play.
The North Ranch Invitational concludes on Sunday, as SDSU squares off against LMU and Pepperdine in doubles, followed by singles matches against competitors from Nebraska.
