As San Diego State awaits completion of its state-of-the art stadium in Mission Valley, fans attending the Aztecs' key matchup against Utah on Saturday in Carson, California, will still be able to participate in a variety of activities at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The SDSU-Utah clash has been designated a "Blackout" game and all fans are encouraged to wear black Aztec gear to show their support. In addition, members of the U.S. Air Force will be recognized throughout the contest.
Aztec Village, a staple of the SDSU football gameday experience, opens at 1:30 p.m. outside the North end zone, featuring food and beverage vendors, a live DJ, a photo booth and a prize wheel, as a well as a Kids Zone that includes inflatables and a balloon artist. Additionally, Aztec Village patrons can register to win a San Diego Stadium seat mural, while TVs will also be available for viewing other college football games from around the nation. Aztec Village is free and open to the public, even those individuals without a game ticket.
After the stadium gates open at 2:30 p.m., the first 1,000 San Diego State students will receive a complimentary SDSU beach towel to be distributed at the top of the student section. Kickoff for the Aztecs-Utes showdown is set for 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats 20 minutes prior to kickoff for the pregame show featuring former SDSU star Ronnie Hillman, who will serve as this week's Honor Warrior.
Hillman spent two seasons at San Diego State in 2010-11, establishing himself as one of the top running backs in program history. The two-time first-team all-Mountain West selection ran for 3,243 yards and 36 touchdowns, including 1,711 yards and 19 touchdowns in his last season in 2011. Despite playing just two years on The Mesa, Hillman ranks fourth among the all-time Aztec rushers 15 100-yard rushing games and is tied for the fourth spot in rushing touchdowns while occupying the fifth and seventh positions, respectively in rushing yards and rushing yards per carry. He was a third-team AP All-American and Doak Walker Award semifinalist in 2011 before joining the Denver Broncos as a third-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.
