SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The San Diego State men's golf team is in sixth place at 14-under-par 546 after two rounds of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. The Aztecs carded an 8-under 272 in today's second round on the par-70, 7,115-yard Mirabel Golf Club.

SDSU, which had a 6-under 274 in the opening round on Friday, is only one stroke back from a trio of teams at 15-under, including Louisville, Washington and Auburn. Georgia Tech is well out in front at 34-under following an 18-under 262 today, while Clemson (-30) sits in second.

Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) paces San Diego State after two rounds and is tied for 20th out of 90 golfers at 4-under 136 following a 3-under 67 today. Zihao Jin (Beijing/Ranch Bernardo HS) (T-27th at -3), Steve Sugimoto (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) (T-33rd at -2), Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) (T-38th at -1) and Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) (T-38th at -1) are all within three shots of Guezzale, while Jack Townsend (San Diego/Charter School of San Diego) is competing as an individual and is tied for 89th at 12-over 152.

Teeing off from the first hole, Guezzale birdied the par-5, 571-yard second hole, along with the par-4, 307-yard fifth and par-4, 456-yard ninth to complete his front nine at 3-under 32. A bogey on the par-4, 390-yard 12th was replaced with another birdie on the par-5, 561-yard 17th seal his 3-under 67.

Jin, meanwhile, shot a 1-under 69 on Saturday and is at 3-under 137 through two rounds. Jin recorded five birdies on the day, including the second, the par-4, 439-yard third, the par-4, 466-yard 13th, the par-4, 423-yard 16th and the 17th, and was at 3-under for the round through 17 holes. However, a double bogey on the par-4, 474-yard 18th had him sign for a 69.

Sugimoto carded a 4-under 66, the Aztecs' best round of the day, and is tied for 33rd at 2-under 138. Sugimoto birdied four of the first five holes, including the first three and No. 5. Following a bogey on the par-4, 526-yard seventh, Sugimoto parred the par-3, 183-yard eighth and birdied the ninth to go out in 4-under 31. Sugimoto got to 5-under for the round with a birdie on the 13th but dropped a shot with a bogey on the par-3, 217-yard 14th. He got one back with a birdie on No. 17 but bogeyed No. 18 to settle for a 66, one off a career-low round.

Lague and Anupansuebsai are each tied for 38th at 1-under 139. Lague carded an even-par 70 today, highlighted by an eagle on the par-4, fifth. Lague still shot a 3-over 38 on the front nine with a pair of double bogeys and one bogey but responded with a 3-under 32 on the back nine. Included in the back nine was four birdies - par-4, 449-yard 10th, the 12th, 14th and 17th - and a lone bogey on No. 13.
