TEMPE, Ariz. – San Diego State women's tennis player Bunyawi Thamchaiwat earned a No.9 singles ranking from the ITA as the Top 125 Preseason Nation Singles administered by the association were announced Tuesday. Thamchaiwat's top-10 positioning is the best preseason ranking in the Aztecs' storied women's tennis history.
The nod as one of the best in the nation comes as Thamchaiwat was also selected to compete in the 2021 ITA Women's All-American Championships presented by LTP. With the preseason honor, Thamchaiwat received the second-highest ranking for a player in SDSU history, is the lone Mountain West women's student-athlete to make the top 125 list, and is one of just two female student-athletes who do not compete for an autonomous five program to earn a top-10 ranking.
Thamchaiwat will kick off competition for the 2021-22 season at the 2021 ITA Women's All-American Championships presented by LTP on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
