In Major League Baseball, Seby Zavala (2012-14) started five games at catcher for the Chicago White Sox, recording three hits, two RBIs, three runs and two walks on the week. He singled in Jose Abreu and give the White Sox a 2-0 lead over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. On the season, Zavala is batting .220 with three homers, nine RBIs, 10 runs and a .304 on base percentage. The White Sox lead Cleveland by 10.5 games in the AL Central. Ty France (2013-15), meanwhile, started all six of Seattle's games this week at first base and designated hitter, while also moving to third base in a game. France walked and had six hits, including a double, during the week. This season, France is batting .276 with 11 home runs, 48 RBIs, 54 runs and a .352 on base percentage. The Mariners are in third place and trail Houston by 7.5 games.
On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) tied for 46th in the World Golf Championships-FedEx St Jude Invitational at even-par. Scott Piercy (1999-01) finished third in the Barracuda Championship, while J.J. Spaun (2009-12) did not make the cut. Next weekend, Piercy and Spaun will compete in the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C. Schauffele is ranked fourth in the world and 13th in the FedEx Cup.
