TEMPE, Ariz. – The San Diego State women's tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team for the 2021 season, the association announced Monday. The Aztecs were one of 210 NCAA Division I women's tennis programs to earn the distinction for excellence in the classroom, receiving this award for the seventh consecutive season.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.2-or-above, factoring in all varsity letter winners for the current academic year.

Additionally, the Aztecs saw juniors Alicia Melosch and Agustina Rimoldi Godoy and freshman Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2021 season, individually earning a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year.

"Aztec Women's Tennis takes great pride in being extremely competitive both on the court and in the classroom," noted head coach Peter Mattera. "I am very proud of both the team and especially Alicia, Agustina and Alexandria for doing such a great job academically this year, especially given the circumstances students were having to deal with due to the coronavirus pandemic."

Melosch had a fantastic junior season for the Aztecs, totaling a 5-3 record in singles play and a 6-4 record in doubles play. Paired with partner Nnena Nadozie, the duo saw a 2-1 record in the number one doubles spot and earned All-Mountain West honors for their play throughout the 2021 season.

In her freshman campaign, Von Tersch Pohrer amassed a 1-6 singles mark, primarily playing in the Aztecs' number six singles spot. Her victory came in her first singles appearance donning the Scarlet and Black, topping UC Riverside's Sydney Tran 6-1, 6-2. She also saw time with partners Abbie Mulbarger and Cécile Morin in doubles play, competing in the Aztecs' number three doubles slot and totaling a 3-4 doubles record.

Rimoldi Godoy saw action in five matches this season, playing four of the five in the Scarlet and Black's sixth singles spot.

The Aztecs' 2021 season saw the program earn five wins, including sweeps of UC Riverside, the University of New Mexico and the Air Force Academy.
