CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Three San Diego State women's golfers were recently named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team. Andrea Gomez (Huixquilucan, Mexico), Bernice Olivarez Ilas (Ayala Alabang, Philippines) and April Ranches (San Diego/Serra HS) each were chosen for their excellence in the classroom during the 2020-21 academic year, owning at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

It was the 12th, 13th and 14th WGCA Scholar All-Americans for head coach Leslie Spalding, who retired in May after 10 seasons at the helm.

The trio ranked second (Ilas, 75.76), third (Gomez, 75.81) and fourth (Ranches, 78.86) on the team in scoring last season. Gomez and Ranches tied for the second-most rounds below par (2), while Gomez' two even-par rounds were tied for the most on the squad.

SDSU played in a NCAA Regional for a seventh straight season and finished second at the MW Championship.
