SAN DIEGO– San Diego State senior swimmer Kristina Murphy will compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Monday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb. Murphy qualified to compete in the 200 Long Course Breaststroke trials, the third event in Monday's preliminary heats which are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CST.
The finals wave of Monday's events will be broadcast live on the Olympic Channel beginning at 7 p.m. CST.
Murphy qualified to compete in Monday's event in July of 2019, swimming a time of 2:33.00 at the SN CCA Summer Sanders LCM Invitational in Roseville, Calif.
Due to the unique nature of the 2020 Olympics, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials have been split into two waves. Wave I or the "wildcard weekend" runs June 4-7 while Wave II is scheduled for June 13-20, each requiring different time standards to qualify. Swimmers can only qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team if they compete in Wave II of the trials. If a swimmer only qualified to swim in Wave I before the date of the team trials, they could advance to Wave II and earn a chance to compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team if they finish as one of the top-two swimmers of their event at the wildcard weekend.
Murphy's junior campaign was capped off with three top-five finishes at the 2021 Mountain West Championships, including a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.65.
Results from Monday's swims can be found here, while a recap of Murphy's efforts can be found on GoAztecs.com shortly after the conclusion of the event.
