SAN DIEGO -- Former Aztecs continue to produce in professional sports.
In the NBA, Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) did not play in the final two victories in the Los Angeles Clippers' victory over Utah. Leonard remained out for the first game of the Western Conference Finals against Phoenix. Game No. 2 will take place on Tuesday night.
In the MLB, Ty France (2013-15) started in six of Seattle's games last week. He mostly played first base with a game each at third base and designated hitter. On the week, France batted .500 with a .542 on base percentage, driving in six and scoring three times with three home runs. On Tuesday, France had a three-hit game, singling in Jake Fraley in the sixth inning before hitting a solo homer in the eighth off Minnesota reliever Griffin Jax in a 10-0 victory. On Thursday, France hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning off Tampa Bay's Ryan Thompson in a 6-5 win. He took Thompson deep again on Sunday in a 6-2 victory for Seattle. On the season, France is batting .270 with a .361 on base percentage, six homers, 28 RBIs and 33 runs scored. The Mariners are in third place and trail Houston by seven games in the AL West, which features four of five teams at .500 or better. Stephen Strasburg (2007-09) remains on the IL for Washington with a neck strain. On the season, Strasburg is 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. Washington is in fourth place in the NL East, five games behind New York.
On the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffle (2013-15) returned to San Diego and tied for seventh at the U.S. Open Championship at 1-under-par while J.J. Spaun (2009-12) did not make the cut. Next weekend, Scott Piercy (1999-01) will compete in the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn. Schauffele is ranked fifth in the world and seventh in the FedEx Cup.
