RICHMOND, Va. – With a new program-record 3.42 grade point average (GPA) for the spring 2021 semester, the San Diego State swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team, announced today by the association. The Aztecs have now been named a Scholar All-America team for the eighth consecutive semester, dating back to fall 2017.
"Coach Shrader didn't let a difficult season stand in the way of success," noted CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart. "These are some of the best ambassadors of San Diego State and Athletic Director John David Wicker, President de la Torre, and Dr. Patrick Papin (Faculty Athletic Representative) can and should be proud of these 30 women."
San Diego State was one of 426 institutions (a total of 721 programs) honored for their academic success. Teams were selected based on their Spring grade point averages and in total represent 17,982 student-athletes.
SDSU finished the 2020-21 season registering its 12th consecutive top-three finish at the Mountain West Championships. The Aztecs went a perfect 4-0 in dual meets to give the Aztecs their sixth perfect dual meet season in the last eight years. Senior Klara Thormalm earned Mountain West Swimmer of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, marking the third consecutive year the Aztecs have earned at least one postseason honor from the conference. The Aztecs finished T-32nd at the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships thanks to performances from Thormalm and junior diver Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez.
