EUGENE, Ore. – Former Aztec Whitney Ashley advanced to the discus throw finals at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials Friday afternoon at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Ashley's throw of 190-5 (58.05m) gave her the seventh-best throw on the day, and the top 12 marks advanced to Saturday's final round. Ashley's first throw was 179-2 (54.63m), her second was 190-5 (58.05m) and her third wasn't legal.
Ashley (2012) will throw again Saturday evening at 6:42 p.m. PT where the top three athletes will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Whitney represented USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Another SDSU alum, Ashley Henderson, also competed at the trials Friday evening. Henderson (2018) had the 26th-fastest time, finishing the 100-meter dash in 11.39 seconds. It was a season-best time for Henderson, but she fell short on qualifing for Saturday's semi-finals.
