SAN DIEGO – Seven members of the Aztec rowing team were named Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), the second most in program history. This is the fourth consecutive year the Aztecs have had at least five CRCA Scholar-Athletes.
The 2021 honorees included seniors Kaytlin Barker, Hannah Broadland, Naomi Marroquin, juniors Clare Botterill, Greta Viss and sophomores Natalie Figueroa and Lindsay Formica.
This is the third time Broadland, the Aztecs' V8+ coxswain, has been honored by the CRCA. She graduated with a 3.59 cumulative GPA as a journalism (media studies) major.
Barker, Marroquin and Viss were recognized for the second time. Marroquin graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA as an interdisciplinary studies major, Viss holds a 3.77 cumulative GPA while studying psychology and Barker, a biology major, graduated with a 3.53 GPA.
First time honorees included Clare Botterill (3.63), Lindsay Formica (3.96) and Natalie Figueroa (3.86).
CRCA Scholar Athlete Requirements
• The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
• The student-athlete was in her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of eligibility
• The student-athlete rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
• The Head Coach of the student-athletes institution was a member in good standing of the CRCA as of May 1, 2021.
CRCA Scholar Athlete Criteria
• The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
