NORMAN, Okla. -- San Diego State senior men's golfer Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) has been named to the PING All-West Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Saturday. It is the second straight year Anupansuebsai has earned all-region accolades.

Anupansuebsai, who was in a tie for fifth after the first round of the NCAA Championships Friday at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., leads the Aztecs with a 70.60 scoring average, rounds in the 60s (10), rounds below par (13), even-par rounds (6) and team count percentage (.920). He entered the weekend with a No. 36 ranking in the latest Golfstat rankings and was even better in the Sagarin/Golfweek ratings at No. 32.

Anupanusebsai has been lights out for San Diego State over the last four tournaments, finishing in a tie for second (Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 5-6), a tie for first (Western Intercollegiate from April 12-14, lost in playoff), a tie for first (MW Championship in April 29-May 1, won in playoff) and a solo victory last time out at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional on May 17-19. This year, Anupansuebsai became the first Aztec to win an individual MW Championship in 20 years (John Lepak in 2001) and the first to win a NCAA regional.

Anupansuebsai was also recently chosen to represent the international team at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Club after helping the squad to a win at the 2020 event, ultimately receiving the 2020 Michael Carter Award, which combines the qualities of sportsmanship, integrity and upholding of the game. Anupanusuebsai was a PING third-team All-American last year as well as a Golfweek honorable-mention selection. The three-time all-Mountain West selection was also the 2020 MW Golfer of the Year and a two-time MW Golfer of the Week.
