SAN DIEGO – Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the signing of Meghan Fiso. A transfer from Michigan, Fiso (FEE-zo) is a 5'10" guard and will be eligible immediately with three years of eligibility remaining.

"Meghan is a big versatile guard who will fit in great with our positionless style of play," Terry-Hutson said. "She plays hard and knows what it takes to win, and we love the offensive mindset and basketball IQ she will bring to the program."

A former top 40 recruit according to Prospects Nation, Fiso was named the 2020 AP Class 3A Player of the Year in Washington and was named the Seattle Times Player of the Year. As a senior, she averaged 24.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals and helped lead Garfield High School (Seattle, Wash.) to a state championship while also securing the Tournament MVP award.

"I had a mentor tell me, 'When you find your place, you'll find your people, and when you find your people, you'll find your purpose.' I believe San Diego is my place and my people are here and there's a purpose for me here on the Aztec basketball team, as both a student and as an individual," Fiso said. "It's a blessing and honor to commit to this great school and I'm looking forward to the years to come. Also, I'm thrilled to be back on the best coast, the west coast."

Prior to her senior year, Fiso attended West Seattle High School who she helped win back-to-back SeaKing District tournament championships and take third in the 2018 state tournament.

As a junior, Fiso averaged 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds and earned 3A All-Metro League first-team honors. In 2018, she was also named the Pacific Northwest Basketball Officials Association Female Player of the Year.

This past season as a freshman at the University of Michigan, she appeared in seven games off the bench on a Wolverine squad that went 16-6 (9-4 in the Big Ten) and advanced to the first Sweet 16 in program history.

This is the second straight season the Aztecs have added a transfer from a Big Ten school (Mercedes Staples, Minnesota).

Fiso is one of three newcomers joining the Aztecs for the 2021-22 season. She joins incoming freshmen wings Khylee Pepe (Long Beach, Calif.) and Cailee Crawford (Albuquerque, N.M.), both of which are four-star recruits.
