FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The San Diego State women's tennis team fell just shy of a comeback win over the Colorado State Rams, falling 4-3 to their Mountain West Conference opponent at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo.
The loss moved the Aztecs to 5-6 (2-3 MW) on the year, while Colorado State moved to 3-4 (2-1 MW) with the program's first-ever win over San Diego State.
Colorado State took the doubles point with wins on court one and two. CSU's Priscilla Palermo and Tracy Guo topped junior Alicia Melosch and senior Nnena Nadozie 7-5 on court one while the Rams' Lou Regen and Alyssa Grijalva bested junior Regina Pitts and sophomore Cécile Morin 6-2 on court two.
Morin came back in singles play ready to battle, earning the Aztecs' first point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 beating of one of her doubles opponents, Regen, on court three. With the match tied at one point each, Nadozie gave the Aztecs their first lead of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 victory on court two.
Palermo tied the score back up with a three-set victory on court one, topping Pitts 2-6, 6-7 (1), 6-2. Melosch put the Scarlet and Black back in the lead with a win in No. 4 singles, topping CSU's Tracy Guo 6-2, 6-3 in two sets. Colorado State found their equalizer on court five as Grijalva topped Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer 6-2, 7-5. With the match on the line, sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy came out strong on court six with a 6-1 victory, but fell in the final two sets, 4-6, 2-6, to give the dual-match win to the Rams.
