SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse freshman Maggie Marion was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Rookie of the Week for the period ending April 12, the conference offices announced Monday. The award is Marion's first weekly honor from the MPSF in her young collegiate career.
Marion was an important part of the Aztecs' offensive and defensive attack in both games over the weekend for the Aztecs. In the Scarlet and Black's historic win over USC, Marion led the team with two caused turnovers while also picking up two ground balls. Her caused turnovers included the steal that led the Aztecs to tie the game at 7-7 in the first half and the forced change in possession that gave the Scarlet and Black their necessary 12th goal of the game to bring San Diego State within a single goal of the Women of Troy. Additionally, both of her ground balls led to Aztecs scores in the game with USC. In the matchup with UC Davis, Marion secured two more caused turnovers and a ground ball.
The Aztecs return home to the friendly confines of The Mesa Saturday, welcoming the Fresno State Bulldogs on April 17 for a senior-day matchup. The opening draw between the MPSF foes is scheduled for noon.
