SAN DIEGO – San Diego State senior utility Emily Bennett was named the Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Player of the Week for games through March 31, the league announced Thursday morning.
In two games, Bennett finished with seven goals on 11 shots with four assists and three steals.
In the 13-12 win over then No. 9 Fresno State, she scored three times on four shots (.750 shot percentage), assisted on two others (a season high), had a pair of steals and a block. Bennett's goals all came in the second half. Her first, was the last of three straight goals by SDSU which narrowed a four-goal deficit to a single goal with 4:53 to play in the third.
In the win over then No. 20 Azusa Pacific, she added four more goals, three coming during the Aztecs' key seven-goal run to lead them to the 10-5 win. For the contest she had a shot percentage of .571, equaled her season high with two assists, and had a steal.
For the two games, she was 7-of-11 from the field (.636 shooting percentage) and her seven goals are the most in back-to-back games for Bennett this year.
Bennett is the first Aztec to earn a GCC Player of the Week designation this year and it is the third of her college career.
