SAN DIEGO – San Diego State is one of eight men's basketball teams set to compete in the 2022 Maui Jim Maui Invitational, the tournament announced Thursday morning.
The 39th annual event will be conducted at the Lahaina Civic Center, on the island of Maui, on Nov. 21-23, 2022, and features the Aztecs, as well as Arkansas, Arizona, Cincinnati, Creighton, Louisville, Ohio State and Texas Tech.
The eight-teams will compete over three days. Each team will play one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout the event will face off in the championship game on Nov. 23, 2022, the final day of the tournament.
The 2022 edition marks the fifth time San Diego State has participated in the Maui Jim Invitational, having posted a 6-6 record in its previous four appearances (1989, 2003, 2014 & 2018). Among the teams competing on Maui in the 2022, the Aztecs have met both Ohio State and Arizona in previous iterations of the event. They defeated Ohio State 83-61 in the quarterfinal game of the 2003 Maui Invitational, but came out on the short end of a 61-59 decision against Arizona in the championship game in 2014.
