SAN DIEGO -- Fresh off a home-and-home series sweep over California Baptist, the San Diego State softball team heads to Cal State Fullerton for a Tuesday doubleheader. The Aztecs (9-3) and Titans (12-10) will play at 3 p.m. PT and 5:30 p.m. PT at Anderson Family Field.
The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Wednesday but moved up a day to beat a heavy dose of rain on the forecast.
SDSU swept the Lancers last weekend, winning 5-2 and 2-0 Friday night in Riverside, before finishing with a 11-2, run-rule victory Saturday in five innings at SDSU Softball Stadium. San Diego State is now 8-0 against unranked teams this season.
Taylor Adams continues to lead the Aztecs offensively with a .419 average (13-for-31) to go along with a home run, five RBIs, nine runs, a double and three walks, recording a .471 on-base percentage. Sadie Langlet is hitting .353 (6-for-17) with a home run, three RBIs, six walks and a team-high .542 on-base percentage, while Alexa Schultz is batting .300 (9-for-30) with team highs of four homers, 11 RBIs and .800 slugging percentage, and adding eight runs, a double and a triple.
The SDSU pitching staff, meanwhile, has combined for a 2.92 ERA with five shutouts in its nine wins. Maggie Balint (4-2, 2.79 ERA, 32.2 IP, 23 K, 12 BB, .242 opp. avg.), Hannah Johnson (3-1, 2.96 ERA, 23.2 IP, 12 K, 2 BB, .267 opp. avg.) and Karina Faasisila (2-0, 3.77 ERA, 13.0 IP, 10 K, 4 BB, .255 avg.) have done the bulk of the pitching for San Diego State, while Marissa Moreno has a 2.17 ERA in 9 2/3 innings of work.
CSUF comes into the doubleheader with a .288 average and 14 home runs in 22 games. Megan Delgadillo leads Cal State Fullerton with a .400 average (22-for-55), while adding 13 runs and eight stolen bases. Julia Valenzuela (.373, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 9 R), Irie Siofele (.365, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 14 R) and Bailey Wallace (.328, 10 R) have also shined at the plate for the Titans, with KK Humphreys (.311, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 12 R) and Hannah Becerra (.308, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 8 R) combining for six homers and 25 RBIs. Six pitchers have combined for a 3.68 ERA across 140 2/3 innings for Cal State Fullerton with Sophie Frost (4-3, 2.82 ERA, 57.0 IP) and Savannah Serrata (4-4, 4.85 ERA, 30.1 IP) logging the most innings in the circle.
The Aztecs beat the Titans twice last year with both games going to extra innings, winning, 3-2, in eight innings at home on Feb. 14 and 6-5 in 11 innings in Long Beach, Calif., on March 6. SDSU, however, still trails the all-time series, 51-24.
Following the midweek doubleheader, San Diego State wraps up its non-conference slate with a home series with Saint Mary's, playing two games on Saturday (1 and 3:30 p.m. PT) and one on Sunday (11 a.m. PT).
