SAN DIEGO – Junior striker Anna Toohey has been named the Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 28. The announcement came from the Conference office in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In two games over the weekend, victories over Fresno State (2-1) and San Jose State (3-0), the Winston-Salem, N.C. native, attempted seven shots, put all on frame and scored a pair of goals, the game winner in each contest. In addition, she also had an assist to total five points for the two games.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half to Fresno State, Toohey collected a loose ball in the box, and one-timed it into the belly of Fresno State keeper who was unable to control it. Chloe Frisch pounced, tied the game with a goal, on which Toohey was credited with an assist.

Just over two minutes later, at the 65:41 mark, Toohey got what would turn out to be the game winner. Taylor Moorehead picked up a ball at midfield and played a perfect throughball to Toohey, who was racing down the left side.  Toohey ran right onto it and drove it into the box.  She stopped at 15 yards out on the left side, let the defender who was with her overrun the play, and then slotted a shot just inside the far post for a 2-1 Aztecs lead and the eventual game winner. Toohey produced four shots, all on frame, scored a goal and had an assist in the victory.

Against San Jose State, she took three shots, all on goal, and scored in the 17th minute of a 3-0 victory. After passes from Claire Watkins and Laura Fuentes got the ball to the top of the 18, Fuentes laid itl off to Toohey who was on her left. Toohey took one touch and hammered a shot to the far post. The SJSU keeper got a glove on it, but it was too hard a shot to stop and put SDSU on the board 1-0 at the 16:04 mark. It would turn into the game winner 63:56 later.

Toohey is the first Aztec to earn offensive or defensive player of the week recognition from the Mountain West this year and this is the first player of the week honor of her college career.
