COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State's Mike Jarvis (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont HS) has been named the Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

With his award, Jarvis earned the first conference weekly honor of his career and the Aztecs' sixth this season.

Jarvis helped SDSU capture its sixth straight series to open the season, as the Aztecs took two of three games at San José State, March 27-28. The SDSU senior went 8-for-13 over the weekend with a home run, five runs scored, one RBI, two doubles, 13 total bases, four walks and a stolen base.

Against the Spartans, Jarvis led the Scarlet and Black in almost every offensive category including batting average (.615), slugging percentage (1.000), on-base percentage (.706), hits, runs, total bases and walks. The Aztec shortstop had multiple hits in all three games and now has at least one hit in five consecutive games. Additionally, Jarvis had a 66.7 percent success rate in advancing runners (4-for-6).

Jarvis set a career high with four hits in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday vs. SJSU and tied a collegiate best with three runs, scoring half of SDSU's total in a 6-4 victory. He led off the game with his second home run of the season, doubled and scored the tying run in the third, and then walked and scored during a three-run sixth inning for the Aztecs.

In the nightcap on Saturday, Jarvis went 2-for-5 with a walk.

Jarvis finished off the series with a 2-for-4 effort and two runs scored in SDSU's 14-4 run-rule triumph on Sunday. He doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth when the Aztecs plated three markers to break a 1-1 tie. In the sixth, where San Diego State scored five times, he reached on a bunt single and later raced home, as the Scarlet and Black essentially put the game out of reach with a 9-1 lead.

In all, Jarvis raised his season batting average from .304 to .348 over the weekend and has reached base in eight straight games. For the season, he also has 15 RBIs, 24 runs, seven doubles, six walks and eight stolen bases. Among the MW leaders, Jarvis ranks second in hits (32) and stolen bases, is tied for second in doubles, occupies the third spot in runs and is seventh in RBIs.
