SAN DIEGO – The Aztec rowing team will be competing in the annual San Diego Crew Classic this Saturday. The renowned regatta will be held virtually this year, although the Aztecs will still be competing in Mission Bay's South Pacific Passage (the Sea World Channel).
Other schools across the nation will be racing on their home courses, completing two 1,500m stretches in opposite directions in an attempt to account for current and wind. Additionally, some programs will have live team racing on ergometers.
The Aztecs, who are receiving votes in the latest CRCA poll, will race their top two varsity eight boats and their first varsity four. The first varsity eight will kick off the day at 7:45 a.m. and will be followed by the second varsity eight (8:05 a.m.) and then the first varsity four (8:25 a.m.)
SDSU will race alongside USD in all three of their races and against No. 18 USC virtually in the second varsity eight and first varsity four. The Aztecs' V4+ beat USC last week and their 2V8+ came in less than two seconds behind the Trojans.
After completing the first 1,500m stretch, the boats will turn around and race the second 1,500 meters within five minutes.
