COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State catcher Wyatt Hendrie was named Mountain West Player of the Week for his performances a three-game set vs. Air Force, March 20-21, helping the Aztecs claim their fifth straight series victory to open the season.

With his honor, Hendrie garnered the first conference weekly accolade of his career and SDSU's fifth this season after Jaden Fein captured three straight awards from Feb. 22-March 8, while Troy Melton received Pitcher of the Week recognition on March 8 as well.

Against the Falcons, Hendrie led SDSU with nine total bases, five RBIs and a .818 slugging percentage, batting .455 (5-11) with one homer, a double and four runs scored.  The Aztec redshirt sophomore hit safely in all three contests, extending his current hitting streak to a team-leading five games.

In addition, Hendrie went 2-for-3 (.667) with runners on third and less than two outs, while posting a 3-for-6 clip (.500) with runners in scoring position.

In game one of Saturday's twin-bill, Hendrie roped an RBI single and scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, as the Scarlet and Black jumped in front for good, 3-1, en route to a 9-2 triumph. He also reached base and crossed the plate in SDSU's six-run outburst during the sixth inning of that contest, which put the score out of reach.

Later in the nightcap, Hendrie scored one of the Aztecs' three go-ahead runs in the third inning, as the Scarlet and Black emerged with a 5-1 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep.

In the series finale on Sunday, Hendrie came back and tied his career-high with four RBIs, finishing with three hits, including his team-leading fifth home run. He also recorded a clutch two-run single with two outs in the sixth inning, as the Aztecs plated five markers to tie the contest at 8-8 before Air Force pulled away in the eighth and ninth.

For the season, Hendrie leads the Mountain West with five home runs and finds himself among the league leaders in numerous categories, including runs scored (2nd – 19), RBIs (T-2nd – 19), slugging percentage (3rd – .644), hits (7th – 20), batting average (10th – .339), on-base percentage (10th – .452) and walks (10th – 7).

Hendrie and the Aztecs will be return to action next weekend, March 27-28 when they venture north to battle San José State in a three-game series.
