GREENSBORO, N.C. – San Diego State senior swimmer Klara Thormalm and junior diver Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez finished their first day of competition at the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Thomalm competed in the 50 free Thursday, one of the two events she qualified to compete in with a NCAA 'B' cut time throughout the 2021 season. She won heat 1 of the 50 free with a time of 22.38, a career-best tme for the Vetlanda, Sweden native. The swim marked the fifth-fastest in program history, previously held by Thormalm with her swim of 22.41 at the 2020 MW Championships. Her NCAA swim ranked tied-for-26th overall in the preliminary heats of of the national championship event.
Lechuga Gonzalez finished 32nd overall in the 1-meter preliminaries with a score of 255.75. Her effort was the second-best score from a non-autonomous five diver.
The duo compete again tomorrow at the championship event. Thormalm kicks off the day in the 100 breast prelims, starting at 10 a.m. ET, while Lechuga Gonzalez competes in the 3-meter dive, beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.
