SAN DIEGO— The San Diego State women's tennis team opened their 2021 season with a dual-match win, topping UC Irvine 6-1 Sunday, Feb. 28 at Aztec Tennis Center.
The Aztecs kicked off the day sweeping the doubles point. The No. 1 double duo of senior Tamara Arnold and junior Alicia Melosch topped Tsukiji/Fossorier 6-4, the No. 2 doubles combo of senior Nnena Nadozie and junior Regina Pitts beat Schlatter/Tilbury 6-1, and No. 3 doubles team of senior Abbie Mulbarger and sophomore Cécile Morin put away their opponent Carter/Fowler 7-5.
In singles play, Nadozie was the first to earn a victory on court three with a win over UC Irvine's Jenna Schlatter 6-3, 6-1. Arnold followed suit on court one with a 6-4, 6-2 topping of the Anteaters' Jessica Tsukiji, and in the No. 4 spot, Morin clinched the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 triumph over UCI's Alyssia Fossorier. In her first outing as an Aztec, Pitts took on Irvine's Halla Algjeely on court two, earning a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win while Melosch grabbed a victory on court five by topping the Anteaters' Arianna Tilbury 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. Junior Agustina Rimoldi Godoy fell to UCI's Emily Fowler on court six 6-3, 6-3.
THE STAT
The Aztecs hit the court for the first time in almost a year and continued a winning streak that dates back to March 7, 2020, when SDSU topped Grand Canyon 6-1.

SDSU hosts the University of San Diego Sunday, March 7 for a dual match at high noon. At this time, no fans will be permitted to attend SDSU home matches at Aztec Tennis Center due to COVID-19 protocols.
