SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State women's golf team returns to action Monday at the three-day Bruin Wave Invitational at The Saticoy Club in Somis, Calif. The par-72, 6,273-yard course layout is hosting the Bruin Wave Invite for the first time.

The Bruin Wave Invitational will be contested across three days with one round each slated for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Aztecs, who are 35th in the latest Golfstat rankings, are one of six teams in the field currently ranked in the top 40, along with No. 10 Arizona State, No. 17 Northwestern, No. 31 Oregon, No. 37 UCLA and No. 39 Colorado. Cal Poly, Colorado State, Long Beach State, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon State, Pepperdine and Washington are also in the event. SDSU is also 26th in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.

San Diego State will be teeing off from the first hole with Washington and Cal Poly, beginning at 8:55 a.m. PT Monday.

The Aztecs are coming off a solid effort at the Lamkin Invitational on Feb. 8-9, where they tied for fourth with Colorado in an 11-team field at 46-over-par 910 on the par-72, 6,318-yard layout at The Farms Golf Club. Also playing at the Lamkin Invite with SDSU and the Buffaloes, and joining them this week are UCLA (T-2nd), New Mexico (6th) and Long Beach State (10th).

San Diego State head coach Leslie Spalding has gone with the starting lineup of Sara Kjellker, Anna Lina Otten, Andrea Gomez, Bernice Ilas and Ella Adams.  Additionally, April Ranches will be competing as an individual.

Kjellker tied for second at the Lamkin Invitational at 1-under 215 and was one of only three players (UCLA's Emma Spitz (No. 18 in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)) at the time and USC's Allisen Corpuz (No. 22)) to shoot under par in the event. Her second-place finish matched the best of her career (also tied for second at the 2019 Mountain West Championship). For her efforts, Kjellker was named the Mountain West Golfer of the Week on Feb. 11. Kjellker is listed sixth in the latest Sagarin individual ratings (as of Feb. 26).

A freshman, Otten is making her first appearance in the starting lineup for the Aztecs after an impressive individual showing at the Lamkin. Playing in her first collegiate tournament, Otten tied for 22nd at 14-over 230, going 73, 73 and 84.

A freshman like Otten, Gomez played in her first collegiate tournament at the Lamkin Invite, tying for 18th at +13 with rounds of 75, 74 and 80. This week will be her second week in the starting lineup.

Ilas tied for 27th at SDSU's first tournament at +16 after going 73, 78 and 81.

Adams rounds out San Diego State's starting following a T34 showing at the Lamkin at +21 (79, 75 and 83).

Ranches, who was in the starting lineup last tournament, tied for 41st at the last tournament at +25 (83, 78 and 80).

The Aztecs will look to improve on last year's Bruin Wave Invitational when they tied for eighth out of 12 teams at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The Saticoy Club is the fourth different site for the Bruin Wave Invitational, now in its 12th year. USC has won five titles, while Stanford (2), UCLA (2), Pepperdine (1) and Washington (1) are also past champions.

Following the Bruin Wave Invitational, SDSU will compete at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational in Fairfax, Calif., on March 8-9.
