COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State softball's Karina Faasisila has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first career MW weekly award for the Tracy, Calif., native.

Faasisila helped the Aztecs to a 5-0 record over the week, matching SDSU's best start in program history. The left-hander appeared in three games in relief, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings, striking out nine with three walks, while limiting the opposition to a .129 average. Faasisila, who led San Diego State in ERA (0.00), appearances (3), combined shutouts (2) and opponent average (.129), allowed only four hits - all singles - in innings.

In the opener on Wednesday at San Diego, Faasisila pitched two perfect innings of relief, striking out three without issuing a walk, combining with Hannah Johnson for a shutout. In the series opener with UC Davis on Saturday, she allowed just one hit and two walks in four innings, striking out three. After the Aggies scored four times in three innings off the previous pitcher, Faasisila held them scoreless the rest of the way. Faasisila finished her weekend with four scoreless innings of relief against UCD on Sunday, striking out three with one walk and three hits allowed, combining with Marissa Moreno for the shutout.

The Aztecs begin a big week Wednesday with a 2 p.m. PT single game at No. 1/1 UCLA, followed by a home series with No. 5/6 Washington on Friday (doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. PT) and Saturday (1 p.m. PT).
