LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The San Diego State swimming and diving team kicked off the 2021 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships with two event wins Wednesday at the Jim Reitz Pool on the campus of the University of Las Vegas, Nevada.
SDSU started the night's finals with a dominant performance in the 200-medley relay, touching the wall with a time of 1:38.31. The swim marks the Aztecs' fifth-best performance in the medley relay throughout program history and topped the UNLV Rebels by .52 seconds.
The Aztecs then competed in the 800 free relay to close out the first day of conference championship competition, winning the event in an exciting fashion. Junior Mia Ryan's final sprint edged out the Rebels by .02 seconds for the win as the Aztecs finished with a time of 7:17.38.
Tomorrow's events begin at 10:30 a.m. PT with the preliminary heats of the 500 free, 200 individual medley, and 50 free. Diving starts their conference championship events with the 1-meter preliminary dives beginning at noon MT. Final heats of the swimming events kick off at 6:30 p.m. PT while the consolation finals of the 1-meter springboard are at 2:15 p.m. and the finals are slated for 6 p.m. MT.
