SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (5-12, 3-8) hosts UNLV (11-8, 9-5) inside Viejas Arena on Monday (1 p.m.) and Tuesday (3 p.m.). Both games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
 
Aztec Notes
• The Aztecs are in the midst of six consecutive games at home. After the UNLV series, SDSU will host Fresno State this weekend (Feb. 20 & 21) before closing out the regular season at Boise State (Feb. 26 and 28).
• The Aztecs are on a five-game losing streak and most recently fell to New Mexico twice in their last series
• The Aztecs are second in the conference in scoring defense (64.8) and three-point field goal defense (.293) and fourth in field goal percentage defense (.386).
• SDSU is committing just 14.5 personal fouls per game, the 28th-fewest in the nation.
• Mallory Adams scored a season-high 16 points last vs. New Mexico (Feb. 5) and is averaging 9.8 points over the last four games.
• Sophomore Isabela Hernandez has a career three-point percentage of 40.3 in 99 attempts. After her next attempt (make or miss) she will have the best career three-point percentage in program history (minimum 100 attempts).
• Hernandez had a career-high nine rebounds in the Aztecs' last game vs. New Mexico.
• Kiara Edwards, who started the last two games, had a career-high nine points on 4-for-5 shooting in SDSU's first game against New Mexico (Feb. 3).
• The Aztecs have had 11 different players score at least 10 points in a game and have had six different players lead the team (or tie for the lead) in scoring.
• The Aztecs had a team GPA of 3.19 in the 2020 fall semester and had six players record a 3.40 GPA or better.
• SDSU announced they will be the newest member of the Jordan Brand family beginning at the start of the 2021-22 season. SDSU is just the ninth women's basketball program in the Jordan lineup.
 
Opponent Notebook (UNLV)
• UNLV is 11-8 on the year and 9-5 in the Mountain West.
• They recently split their home series with Boise State, losing the first 85-59 but then rebounding to win the finale 74-62.
• They have won six of their last eight conference games.
• UNLV is 5-0 on the road this year and 4-0 in conference play.
• They return just one starter (Bailey Thomas) from last year's team that went 13-17 and tied for fifth (9-9) in the MW (with the Aztecs).
• Their leading scorer (12.0 ppg) and rebounder (7.2 rpg), Delaynie Byrne, played with Mercedes Staples at the University of Minnesota.
• Nia Johnson (11.9 ppg) and Desi-Rae Young (11.6 ppg) also score in double-digits.
• Bailey Thomas, last year's Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, leads the team with 4.2 assists per game.
• UNLV leads the conference in three-pointers attempted and is third in threes made, but if fifth in three-point percentage (.309).
• They are second in the nation in both free throws made and attempted, while shooting 70,7 from the line, 148th in the nation..
• UNLV has the second-best rebound margin (+3.2) in the league.
• The Lady Rebels struggled with turnovers, committing 15.3 per game and have a turnover margin of -0.79
• Head coach Lindy La Rocque is in her first season as head coach of UNLV. A Las Vegas native, she spent the last three years as an assistant at Stanford, her alma mater.
 
Series Notes
• UNLV leads the all-time series 32-29.
• The Lady Rebels have won six of the last seven meetings.
• The home team won in both of the games last season with both games being decided by single digits.
• The Aztecs are 19-10 all-time against UNLV at home.
• SDSU won 13 of 14 between 2007-13, but UNLV won 12 of 13 between 2000-07.
