COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State's Sara Kjellker (Hollviken, Sweden) has been named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the fourth time of her career Kjellker has been named the MW Golfer of the Week to go along with a MW Golfer of the Month honor in Sept. 2019.
Kjellker tied for second place at the Lamkin Invitational earlier this week to lead the Aztecs to a tie for fourth out of 11 teams. The second-place tie matched the best finish of her career (also at the 2019 MW Championship). Kjellker was one of only three players in the field of 60 to finish the tournament under par as she went 74, 66 and 75 to card a 1-under 215.
Playing all three rounds with UCLA's Emma Spitz (No. 18 in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)) and USC's Allisen Corpuz (No. 22), Kjellker fell to Corpuz on a birdie putt on the 54th hole and settling for a second-place tie with Spitz. Kjellker's 66 in the second round was tied for the lowest round of the tournament. Additionally, Kjellker led the field in par-4 scoring (3.90).
According to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, Kjellker is rated 18th in Division I through Feb. 10.
Kjellker and SDSU will compete at the Bruin Wave Invitational at The Saticoy Club, March 1-3, in Somis, Calif.
