COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophia Ramos was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Ramos, who was a preseason All-Mountain West selection, averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the Aztecs' two games in Las Vegas last week.
A junior guard from San Antonio, Ramos led SDSU in scoring and rebounding in both games. She scored 17 points and hauled in seven rebounds against Washington while shooting 50 percent from the floor (6-12). In the Aztecs' win over Lamar, Ramos finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a career-high three blocks.
Ramos became just the second Aztec to post at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a game in the Mountain West era (Paris Johnson).
Ramos played 38 and 40 minutes in SDSU's games and combined to go 12-for-15 from the line.
This is the third career Mountain West Player of the Week Award for Ramos.
The Aztecs next game is Wednesday at 2 p.m. PT when they host California Baptist (2-0) for their 2020-21 home opener.
