SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (1-1) hosts California Baptist (2-0) Wednesday at 2 p.m. for their first home game of the 2020-21 season.
 
Aztec Notes
• The Aztecs split their two games in Las Vegas last week, losing a tight one to Washington 61-59 and then beating Lamar 60-54.
• This is the third consecutive year the Aztecs have faced the Lancers with SDSU winning both meetings.  The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with Chris Ello on the call.
• Sophia Ramos was named the Mountain West Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. She scored 17 points and hauled in seven rebounds against Washington while shooting 50 percent from the floor (6-12). In the Aztecs' win over Lamar, Ramos finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a career-high three blocks. Ramos became just the second Aztec to post at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a game in the Mountain West era (Paris Johnson).
• The Aztecs went 14-17 in 2019-20 with a 9-9 mark in conference (tied for fifth place), their highest finish in seven years.
• San Diego State received one first place vote in the preseason Mountain West poll and were predicted to finish in fourth place, their highest preseason prediction since the 2013-14 preseason when they were picked to finish third.
 
Opponent Notebook (Cal Baptist)
• The Lancers are 2-0 on the year with wins over Fresno Pacific and UC Irvine.
• They went 16-15 last season and 7-9 in the WAC.
• Through two games, three players are averaging double-digits: Brittany Thomas (13.5), Nicole Avila-Ambrosi (12.5) and Ane Olaeta (11.5). Thomas is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game and Olaeta is dishing out 6.5 assists per game.
• Caitlyn Harper is averaging 10.5 rebounds.
• The Lancers are coached by Jarrod Olson (8th season). He has a 171-55 record at CBU.
 
Series Notes
• This is the third straight year the Aztecs and Lancers have met with SDSU winning each of the last two meetings by double-digits.
• The Aztecs trailed by as much as 10 points in the second half in last year's meeting before outscoring the Lancers 40-18 down the stretch to win 80-68.
• Sophia Ramos erupted for a then career-high 30 points on 9-for-14 shooting at California Baptist last season.
• The Aztecs are 9-2against all-time against schools currently in the WAC.
