SAN DIEGO – Shelia Burrell, head coach of the SDSU track and field team, has announced the signings of seven athletes.
Meet the Future Aztecs:
Ashley Callahan | Pole Vault | Rancho Bernardo HS | Escondido, Calif.
PRs: 13-5.00 (indoor) & 13-6.00 (outdoor)
Callahan was recruited and offers from numerous power five programs. The 2019 California state champion, she was named an All-American by Track & Field News. Her vault of 13-6.00 tied the San Diego section record set by former Aztec great Kortney Ross. She set a California record by clearing 13' in the 13 meets in 2019.
Vanessa Cabello | XC/Distance | St. Francis HS | Mountain View, Calif.
PR: 18:27.5 (5k)
Focused exclusively on soccer up until her junior year, placed 37th in the 2019 CIF State Cross Country 5k Championships.
Jenna Fee Feyerabend | High Jump & Multi's | Groß-Gerau, Germany | Carl-Von-Weinberg Schule
PRs: 1.80m (high jump) & 5,665 points (heptathlon)
One of the best youth heptathletes in the world, Feyerabend currently ranks fourth in the U18 Heptathlon world rankings and first among athletes born in 2002. Her best discipline is the high jump where she is a four-time German national champion and holds four national records.
Corey Freidenbach | Pole Vault | Air Force Academy/Pacific Collegiate School | Santa Cruz, Calif.
PR: 12-6.25
Transferring to SDSU after one year at the Air Force Academy where she competed in 15 meets (seven indoor and eight outdoor) and cleared 12' on three occasions… In high school, she qualified for the California state championships three times.
Rhea Hoyte | Sprints & 400m Hurdles | The St. Michael School | St. Michael, Barbados
PRs: 24.17 (200m), 55.38 (400m) & 1:00.81 (400m hurdles)
A two-time Barbados National Junior champion in the 400m and 400m hurdles (2018 & 2019), Hoyte was awarded the Most Outstanding Senior Female in Athletics in 2019. She also helped her 4x100m relay team win the bronze at the 2019 CARIFTA Games.
Kennedy Jennings | Mid-Distance (400m & 800m) | Edison HS | Fresno, Calif.
PRs: 57.26 (400m) & 2:11.69 (800m)
Jennings had a top 15 time in the 800m in all of California (2:11.69) last year and has the fifth best time among returners.
Thaila Wilson | High Jump & Multi's | Hydel HS | St. Catherine, Jamaica
PRs: 1.78m (high jump) & 4,913 points (heptathlon)
Wilson won the Jamaican Youth Championships in the heptathlon in 2019 and took home gold in the high jump at the 2019 CARIFTA trials.
