SCENE SETTER (through games of Nov. 7)
* After seeing a four-game win streak snapped, San Diego State looks to rebound when it plays host to Hawai'i on Saturday afternoon at Dignity Sports Park in Carson, Calif. The game will be televised in Hawaii by Spectrum Sports, with a feed available on the mainland for free via an app. The game can also be heard on 101.5 KGB and XTRA Sports 1360.
* Saturday's game features two of the three Mountain West teams with a 2-1 conference record (also Fresno State).
* This is the 35th meeting between San Diego State and Hawai'i with the Aztecs owning a 21-11-2 series advantage. Although the Aztecs have won six of the last eight encounters, Hawai'i has won the last two meetings - 31-30 in overtime in Mission Valley in 2018 and 14-11 in Honolulu last season.
* Saturday is a rare afternoon home game for the Aztecs. The last time SDSU played a game that kicked off this early at home was when SDSU defeated New Mexico on Nov. 24, 2017 (the Friday after Thanksgiving). SDSU defeated the Lobos, 35-10, in a game that kicked at 12:38 p.m. PT.
* The Aztecs are looking to improve to 3-1 after four games for the third consecutive season. The last five times SDSU has opened with a 3-1 record it has gone on to advance to a bowl game. The last three times SDSU owned a 3-1 record after four games (2016, 2018 and 2019), the Aztecs averaged 9.3 wins, won a league title (2016) and two bowl games (2016 and 2019).
* San Diego State has responded from its last four losses with a victory (outscoring the opposition, 60-20, in those four wins).
* Having played last Friday, San Diego State has eight days between the contest against the Warriors. SDSU is 7-1 the last eight times it has had exactly eight days before facing an opponent. Oddly, the lone loss came last season at Hawai'i (14-11).
* San Diego State's four-game winning streak was broken last Friday with a 28-17 loss to San José State. The Aztecs did not trail an in the first half and retook the lead, 17-14 early in the third quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Greg Bell. However, the Aztecs turned the ball over on their next three possessions - two of which resulted in short touchdown drives of 17 and 27 yards for the Spartans.
* The Aztecs lost despite having a large in advantage in time of possession (36:08-23:52). Since Sept. 20, 2015, the Aztecs are now 32-2 when having at least 32:20 time of possession.
* Senior running back Greg Bell became the first Aztec player in school history to open his SDSU career with three consecutive 100-yard rushing games. The Nebraska transfer carried 25 times for 111 yards and a touchdown, and ranks eighth nationally (fourth among players that have played at least two games) in rushing yards per game (125.7).
* The Aztec defense once again put together a solid performance, holding its fourth straight opponent to less than 300 yards of total offense (longest active streak in the country). San Diego State's nation-leading streak of 41 consecutive quarters of holding its opponent without multiple scores came to an end with the Spartans cashing in on the two aforementioned drives.
