SAN DIEGO -- It was another big week for former Aztecs in professional sports.
In golf, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) returned to action in a big way at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. Schauffele rebounded from a 2-over 74 on Saturday with a 6-under 66 on Sunday to finish second at 18-under 270, two shots behind Jason Kokrak (-20). Now ranked seventh in the world, Schauffele will compete at The ZOZO Championship at Sherwood CC this week in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
In the NFL, Daniel Brunskill (2013-16) drew another start at right guard in San Francisco's 24-16 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Brunskill faced a tough task, spending most of the night lined up across Aaron Donald, allowing just a single presser on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Brunskill played all 73 snaps on offense and one on special teams. Teammate Alex Barrett (2013-16) also played eight snaps on defense in the win and another on special teams. The 49ers play at New England on Sunday.
Calvin Munson (2013-16), meanwhile, played 19 special teams snaps in Miami's 24-0 shutout win over the Jets. The Dolphins are on a by this week and return to play the Rams in Week 8. Long snapper Aaron Brewer (2008-11) played 10 snaps in Arizona's 38-10 win over Dallas on Monday night. The Cardinals take on undefeated Seattle on Sunday. Keith Ismael (2017-19) and Luq Barcoo (2018-19) did not play in losses for Washington and Jacksonville, respectively, while Ryan Pope (2016-18) continues to be on Green Bay's practice squad. Running back Rashaad Penny (2014-17) is on PUP for Seattle, while tight end Kahale Warring (2016-18), fullback Nick Bawden (2014-17), and safety Damontae Kazee (2013-16) are on injured reserve for Houston, Detroit, and Atlanta.
