SAN DIEGO -- It was another big week for former Aztecs across professional sports.
In the NFL, long snapper Aaron Brewer (2008-11) recovered a Steven Sims fumble on a punt in the first quarter, which set up Arizona for its second touchdown. Brewer played 10 snaps on special teams in Arizona's 30-15 win over Washington. The Cardinals host Detroit on Sunday afternoon. Safety Damontae Kazee (2013-16), meanwhile, led Atlanta with eight tackles (seven solo) in a close loss to Dallas. He started and appeared in 77 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps. Atlanta will take on Chicago on Sunday. In San Francisco's win, Daniel Brunskill (2013-16) drew the start at right guard and saw action for 53 snaps on offense and five on special teams. After playing the New York Jets, the 49ers will return to the Meadowlands on Sunday for a matchup with the New York Giants. Linebacker Calvin Munson (2013-16) made a solo tackle in Miami's loss to Buffalo, playing eight defensive snaps and 18 special teams snaps. The Dolphins will battle Jacksonville on Thursday night. Offensive lineman Keith Ismael (2017-19) and cornerback Luq Barcoo (2018-19) are with Washington and Jacksonville, respectively, but have yet to see any game action. Green Bay recently signed offensive lineman Ryan Pope (2016-18) to their practice squad, while Houston placed tight end Kahale Warring (2017-18) on injured reserve. Warring is eligible to return in Week 5. Running back Rashaad Penny (2014-17) is on the PUP list for Seattle and fullback Nick Bawden (2014, 2016-17) is on injured reserve for Detroit.
Last week at the U.S. Open Championship, Xander Schauffele (2013-15) finished fifth at 4-over par. Schauffele, who is ranked eighth in the world, now has four top-6 finishes at the U.S. Open in four appearances. This week, J.J. Spaun (2009-12) will compete at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic.
Over the last week, Seattle Mariner Ty France (2013-15) is batting .280 with three runs and two RBIs. On Monday, he knocked in the go-ahead run in which Seattle eliminated Houston from division title contention. Greg Allen (2012-14) is on San Diego, which recently clinched its first playoff appearance in 14 years. Stephen Strasburg (2007-09), meanwhile, is out for the remainder of the season with an injury.
In the NBA, Kawhi Leonard (2010-11) was named to the All-NBA Second Team for the 2019-2020 season, after earlier making the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
