SAN DIEGO -- In a normal year, San Diego State would be in the thick of things for fall competition. With fall sports suspended, however, former Aztecs are picking up the slack.

Kawhi Leonard has been a force to be reckoned with so far in the NBA bubble for the Los Angeles Clippers. Leonard led the Clippers to a 4-2 series win over Dallas in the first round of the playoffs. Leonard averaged 32.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the series. Leonard and the Clippers next play Thursday night in the Western Conference semifinals against the winner of Denver and Utah's Tuesday matchup.

It was a busy trade deadline for former Aztecs. Ty France was traded by the San Diego Padres to Seattle. On the season, France is batting .309 with nine runs, 10 RBIs and a pair of homers. Most recently, he was 3-for-4 with four RBIs at Colorado on Friday.

In another trade, Greg Allen was traded from Cleveland to the Padres. Allen is hitting .160 on the season with three runs, four RBIs and a home run.

Stephen Strasburg, meanwhile, was 0-1 this year with a 10.80 ERA in two starts in five innings before moving to the disabled list. Strasburg eventually had carpal tunnel surgery on his right hand and will miss the rest of the season.

In golf, Xander Schauffele had a busy month of August, tying for 10th at the PGA Championship, and following with a pair of 25th-place ties at The Northern Trust and BMW Championship in the FexEx Playoffs. Schauffele, the No. 11-ranked player in the world, enters the Tour Championship this weekend tied for 11th at 3-under par as the FedEx leader Dustin Johnson will start at 10-under. Schauffele won the event as a rookie in 2017.

Scott Piercy, meanwhile, missed the cut at the PGA Championship before tying for 69th at the Wyndham Championship and tying for 29th at The Northern Trust. J.J. Spaun also competed at the Wyndham Championship, but missed the cut.
